Hi Guys, I am going to be graduating in a few months and I have two offers. I need some advice on which offer I should be doing to transition into FAANG in 2 to 3 years time. Would it be more beneficial for my learning to go with Sky? Expedia London: Role: SDE 1 Base: 46,000 GBP (around 61,000 USD) Travel allowance 6,100 GBP (around 8100 USD) - paid monthly with a base salary RSU: 40000 USD (2 year cliff - 50/25/25) Remote: 50% office This will be a more front-end focused position and there is a pathway to SDE 2 after 12 months. Do you have any idea what I could expect to get once I get promoted to SDE 2? Sky London (owned by Comcast): Role: Associate Software Developer Compensation: 35000 GBP (around 46500 USD) + full Sky package and many other benefits. Remote: Mostly remote but I might need to go to the office a few times a month The compensation should increase to 40000 GBP (around 53100 USD) I did an internship at Sky so I understand the company culture. In regards to Expedia, I have read negative points about their engineering culture so I am not just sure if it would be better to go with Sky for my overall career progression but get less paid initially. I am not sure about my job security with Expedia as they are a travel company and might need to cut costs at some point. All suggestions and thoughts are welcome to help me reach a decision.

Hey OP Well done on getting two offers, that’s excellent 🎉 🎊 🥂 I assume your Expedia offer is to join the grad program. This program started this year (as in the first cohort was 2021 graduates) and will see you placed in two teams (6 months each) in the first year. I would def go for Expedia on this, that’s a significant difference in starting salary. As far as engineering culture goes, I think it depends on the team - sure. But also don’t take the complaints you read on blind too seriously at this stage in your career. At least imo. You’ll start to have complaints (probably) after you are a non-junior with a few years experience under your belt. And by then you’ll have moved on OP can I ask which uni you are graduating from?
You already asked before his permission. Now get back to work ☺️
Thanks for the useful insight.
Just saying that Expedia has a really nice office with a relatively nice location. And Sky’s office is quite far away, not easy for commute
Chase the money. And by that I mean go to a company that pays more than both
Which org/team are you joining at Expedia? Mostly Expedia is chill. And has good company culture. Sky offer is too low for a SWE new grad
I think the team matching is gonna start closer to the time so at this point I don't know which org/team. Is there any organisation/team I should be trying to avoid/pick when I need to decide my org/team at Expedia?
You don’t get to decide. They put you in a team with your favorite tech stack and you will be rotating for 1 year in two different teams. At the end of the second rotation (i.e after two 6 months rotations), you will pick your final team to join as an SDE-2
