I'm currently ending my junior year for undergrad about to enter senior year. I didn't manage to get accepted into my schools Masters program so I'm wondering what I should be doing now. I've historically prioritized my self coding projects and Hackathon's over schools so grades not the best but I've had an internship at T-Mobile and this summer I will be at Cisco.
I want to get into the bay area so next year I will probably apply to Uber, Airbnb, Google, Facebook, Microsoft and other top tech companies. I know I need to be grinding on Leetcode this summer to pass the interviews, this year I got interviews with Google and Facebook but didn't get through all the coding questions so I know what I need to improve on.
My real question is how important is a masters degree in CS for me to move through the corporate ladder at those kind of companies above, will i receive a hard block at any time for not having a masters degree, is it something I should be prioritizing in the next few years?
- Bird / Eng babyengI have friends working at some of those companies you mentioned who didn’t even finish undergrad
- LinkedIn tendiesAny reason why you want to go to the bay area? It's pretty shit imo tbh. Better TC elsewhere for cost of living and such.
- New / Eng zeklordmoreOPFrom what I've read here the highest salaries are in the bay area. Ik taxes and rent are all high but your not going to be making 300-500k in other areas unless ur like the vp of some company vs just a software engineer at uber. I plan on just staying in the shittiest place I could find and saving up for a few years and moving from company to company to get the highest pay I can before going to like Austin which seems really promising and considerably cheaper.Apr 23, 2019 0
