New Grad: Google vs Uber

Trying to pick between two new grad offers: Google: Product Area: Ads TC: ~160k Uber: Team: Seems like a cool team/project that could have the potential for really high impact at Uber and could be a good learning opportunity. TC: ~145k I don't really care about TC and want to optimize for learning/working on interesting and impactful projects. I guess my two main questions are: 1. How is the Google ads product area? Are there any interesting new projects that I'd get the opportunity to be a part of as a new grad? 2. Is Google's brand worth risking being on a not as interesting team? Any advice and opinions are appreciated!

What's the break up for the two offers?

Google: 120 base/100 eq Uber: 110 base/ 110 eq

Ads bring the most revenue and I believe is the team with highest growth in the company. Think guaranteed promos and the like. Congratulations on both offers.

Kind of surprised Uber is offering that low...kind of a red flag. Come here, promo, then jet if you don’t like it.

career growth at Uber, perks and pay at google. ads is a saturated market with incremental growth. Uber had higher upside

Do you want to help people sell shit, or do you want to change the world?

You'll learn better engineering practices at Google, but I also wouldn't suggest anyone work on Ads. Advertising is a fundamentally broken industry. Try to switch to almost any other team at Google and then take their offer. "Career" growth is overrated. Optimize for learning useful things, not for titles. Source: Have worked at both.

I think Google would be better on your resume to optimize for future desirability
