I’m speaking to my Apple recruiter next week to negotiate an offer for a new grad data science role He sent me an email saying he needs to get input on what kind of offer I’m looking for & talk about other offers. Don’t have any other offers yet but expect to see some from some non big tech companies soon. Any advice on approaching these conversations with recruiters?
Rule 1: Don’t give initial numbers Rule 2: Follow rule 1.
BS. It’s best to ask for high initial numbers.
Oh wow you’re right. If I ask for high numbers, they’ll just give me high numbers. Why do people get so nervous about negotiating
Tell them give me a competitive salary , market rate. Have some Initial numbers ready, and if what recruiter said doesn’t feel right. Counter or say I will come back with my expectation. Don’t give your numbers. Period.
Can you please provide some details about your interview process? I would have pinged you but this topic restricts PMs.
Unless it’s another FANG offer. Apple doesn’t care. First question is usually is it “google” offer? Then they’ll go strong with the rsus talk. Granted apple is known for good rsu and bonus refreshers. Focus on negotiating base higher with no FANG counter offers. If FANG you got them by the balls. Negotiate till they don’t want to and then fall back on signing bonus. The refreshers will more than enough make up any difference if you last here and land in a good org.
