Women, help me understand why this is inspirational
I got a new grad offer from ServiceNow this summer and am also likely to get a Microsoft Summer 2022 internship offer. I graduate Dec 2022 and am trying to decide if I should accept my ServiceNow new grad offer or intern at Microsoft Summer 2022 -> Reject ServiceNow -> Get Microsoft return offer (very high return offer rate). My issue is that Microsoft pays less than ServiceNow but has arguably better WLB, benefits, and clout. I'm not sure how either compare in the tech world so I'm hoping software engineers here will give me some insight on which is a better choice to take for my career. However, it comes down to one question: Should I work for ServiceNow for the $$$ but less transferable skills or Microsoft for less base pay? ServiceNow TC: 130k/25k/13k bonus Microsoft TC: 112k/30k/25k (Source: levels) #ServiceNow #microsoft #microsoftcareers #microsoftnewgrad #microsoftoffer #career #newgrad #newgradsalary #softwareadvice
Service now ✖️✖️✖️
Why is that so bad?
ServiceNow can be amazing for career growth if you’re on the right team.
Can you name the teams
P4
Would only consider ServiceNow if it’s a platform team. Otherwise if you’re on an app team, there’s a high chance you’ll be writing ES5 within the platform or using a combination of UI builder / ServiceNow’s internal framework all while moving XML files
If it's an app team could you switch to platform? Or is it a bit of a dead end
Would be harder to switch to platform since they are based in SD. I would go with microsoft
Is this ServiceNow offer in San Diego or Santa Clara, also is this an intern conversion?
Santa Clara and yes conversion
Take Microsoft offer. Lot of good things going on at Microsoft and it’s a very big software company. If you keep moving teams you can almost retire there as they have a breadth of technologies and products you can work on. You can move to consumer and enterprise side as well if needed. Difference of 10-15K in comp far outweighs this advantage.
OP In this case I would go with MSFT. Normally I would recommend ServiceNow over MSFT if you were on a cutting-edge team but in this case it sounds like your team doesn’t have much technical growth.
Wondering as well what is considered a cutting-edge team at servicenow
a bird in the hand is worth more than two in the bush what if the market crashes again and microsoft reduces new grad headcount and you don't get the return offer? or you end up with a manager who hates you? lots of new grads were left to dry in 2020 because of this, and they ended up having to search for jobs for another year take ServiceNow offer and then just jump ship for more money in 1 year
I've heard that Microsoft pays shit ton to New Grads nowadays.
I heard they did by bumping up the bonus and stock but does that devalue in the long run? I heard a higher base pay is better than an embellished bonus/stock package
If they bump stocks, that's gold, considering the way Microsoft has been recently doing as a business. Sign-on bonus is just one-time payment (over 2yrs) which is just to cheer up new joinees. Try negotiating for base. Base is definitely very important and its higher value is better for sure, but it again comes to your preference. Compare growth and market value working at MSFT vs ServiceNow.
