Just stepping my foot into the industry, I would be appreciative if I could get some advice on which choice is the best Facebook: TC: 240k first year and 170k after, Menlo Park, CA 118k base / 210k RSU over 4 years/ 70k sign on bonus (all at once on first paycheck) Microsoft: TC: 157k first two years and 137k after, Redmond WA 110k base salary /110k RSU over 3.5 years / 40k sign on bonus (20k first paycheck, 20k after 1 year). Besides TC quick background, come from a pretty low income family with a good amount of student loans, so I know money isn't everything but at least for the next couple years I don't mind working hard to get my parents taken care of and also my loans. TC: 🥜
Redmond but other people will tell you to go for FB.
Can you explain your thought process or reasoning for msft over fb?
As someone that is also paying off student loans, go FB. Pay them off faster. Also, Facebook seems to carry more weight in the tech job world.
FB. You also grow faster and get promoted faster too. As long as you can handle the stress
How’s the promotion speed like at Microsoft and also your wlb?
Not sure if you can ask for FB Seattle :) marginally lower CoL
Do you know anything about the teams in Seattle by any chance?
What kind of fucking idiot gets these type of offer and can't tell FB is clearly better?
(: Thanks
I think this is a troll post. New grads don't get that high of a signing bonus unless they were a return intern. RSU is also higher than what returning interns are getting even with a top rating.
Amazing to me how uncompetitive MS is.
Sad fact
Why do you guys take it? Why aren't people leaving?
Are you a rockstar PhD? Your FB tc is almost too high to be true for non-return-intern new grad. My advice: ask if possible to change FB offer from MPK to SEA. Congrats btw. Disclosure: I am pretty familiar with new grad tc bands.
That’s too little even for the standard PhD return intern package.
mine Amazon new grad offer is better than this MS offer (112k base, 120k stock, 36k 1st year, 36k 2nd year).
How is your Amazon new grad offer better than the MS offer? Did you not go through student programs?
Decent deliverables during my intern at AWS. I negotiated the stocks from 80k to 120k. I had MS offer too 110k base, 50k(2 years), 70k stocks. Unless you are a return intern, MS new grad offers are more or less same as Amzn offers. One of my friends got the same MS offer but with 15k sign on. Is MS better than Amazon compensation wise?
So many smart people here but I never see actual math. Can’t be ballparking these things son. Cash after putting $19,500 in retirement account every year: FB Year 1 $139,344 Year 2 $98,904 Year 3 $98,904 Year 4 $98,904 ———————— $436,056 MS Year 1 $102,288 Year 2 $102,288 Year 3 $88,056 Year 4 $88,056 ———————— $380,688 Is the difference of $55,368 over 4 years + higher possibility for promo enough to justify the stress at Facebook and the higher cost of living in the bay? Perhaps, perhaps not. In the Bay you will have to be slumming it with roommates and the difference in TC will disappear to cover the difference in rent, but you get more money upfront which is valuable too! Aside from money, Facebook on your resume is obviously a huge thing.

TC progression. Estimated to hit $1M+ this year. AMA
Fb obviously better for TC. Also don't forget about annual bonus.
