We had a new SDM join from AWS. I'm my program employees are not generally fired or put on performance improvement until they fuck up bad. He ended up showing the door to a Dev and she was asked to leave on short notice.. He led a team of 10 developers. Not sure is this a norm in Amazon?
Work hard or get booted.
My counterpart on the PM side is from Amazon. He blatantly says that if people don’t want to take his high pressure tactics (read:bullying) then they can leave and that is a “good thing”. The exodus has already begun with our manager leaving, with the team dangling with no leadership. Run away from ex-Amazonians - most of them think bullying is the way to get things done.
I am like WTF this is not how things are done here, people just shown the door
At Google, we don't usually hire Amazon SDMs, only the engineers. Amazon toxicity and googlyness don't mix.
you want off his team. you dont want to work for an amazon manager who fires people like this. He probably did it in part to scare the rest of you.
