In desperate attempts (obviously over exaggerating) of choosing one or preparing for interviews in hand (amazon) I seek your advice and help. Context: fresh grad software dev, ms in cs Salary: Walmart: 130k base/ 30k sign on in 2 yrs SaaS: 105k base/ 25k sign on/ 20k rsu Team: Walmart: Infra, System engineering team Would be working in team of 2 so Far on data analytics and ML SaaS: Full stack ruby + react, can have ML opportunities Location: Walmart: Sunnyvale SaaS: Santa Barbara Mostly I want to judge future growth I feel my team at Walmart is not of much visibility. It would be a team of 2, which is scaring me. At smaller company, culture is nice, team works really well together and one can be oneself. Founded in 2006, IPOed in 2016. What could be the best next action?
For sure Walmart. You’ll want to be in the Bay Area for professional networking
Yes, that’s a point that I feel is important too. What avenues would I have for professional networking in Sunnyvale?
ML, you can transition to infrastructure during mid career
I would go for walmart. Lot of room to grow and you will be working in a professional enviroment.
I think you are lowballed at Labs. New grads from a good/top school get around 170k TC and ~40-50k signon. I got it & know a couple others(MS CS)
I agree. Walmart sounds better of the two. Learn as much as you can, talk to everyone, network like crazy given that you’re in SV, and set yourself up for the next move. Moving to SB is likely a dead end.

Tipping culture is really getting out of control! Waiter gave me ‘a look’ because I tipped her 10% for ‘BAD service!’

Have you brought the Walmart offer to the Saas company? Ask them for a counter offer. How about health and other benefits?
Yes but these guys are on strict budget. Am trying to get it raised to 110k or more. Do you think it would be equivalent to Sunnyvale 130? Based on cost of living is half for me in Smaller company? Health benefits are same
