Hi, guys I am new grad AWS software engineer. Read a lot on blind about cons on Amazon. Do you have any advices for me about joining and possible switching? Comments and private messages are welcome! Please share anything you wanna say most about Amazon. I am eager to hear. Best, Greenhand
Don't be afraid to look outside of AWS if you can't handle the ops load. Plenty of other teams at Amazon with much better wlb
This ^ Don't stick with the stereotype that AWS is superior. Most of AWS will kill you with sev-2s. Also, high chances you won't get to write design docs in AWS, SDE-3 do that. In other teams, even at L4 you might get a chance to write design docs. Having so many PE in your team is not cool for juniors, they do all the cool work & juniors get nothing
Can confirm. Was an L4 in an unsexy org who got to write design docs, code a lot, and got promoted.
To work in AWS, you need to like Infra. If you like Infra, work wise you should be pretty golden. If you like product engineering more, you are in for a disappointment. Outside of good work in infra in AWS, pay & benefits sucks. Non-existent perks! Bad WLB in critical services, bad on-call in critical services. WLB is inversely proportional to critical services!

Why get killed with seconds? Is it because the technical is too difficult? Thank you.
