Hi, I am pondering on how Apple stacks against Google for a new grad. Like in terms of culture and growth. NLP, ML based team in Apple while team is still undecided at Google. Ppl at Apple if you work in ML based team can you please share how ur day goes. Thanks! . Im a grad student
Start with Google. You will be all set !!
Apple has a lot more older engineers it might be harder to fit in
I feel that team at Apple might be more research oriented than what i will get at Google. Other than that i am just asking for general opinion before i sign the letter with either.
Apple varies a lot by the team. Since you’re interviewing for a specific team, you’ll know whether you’ll like the coworkers and what you’ll be working on. I’m assuming at Google you’ll get assigned a team later, so it’s more of a gamble. Also, the average engineering talent at Google is probably higher, but there are some teams at Apple that are very selective and cutting edge. So yea, if you’re really interested in the specific team at Apple you got the offer from, I’d say you should choose them.
Don’t join a company join a team. Connect with your recruiter and manger to get a feel of what you would work on. You can always switch companies but learning early is vital.
+1 to @bpdp dont go by Apple or Google cool aid. You will find good work and shit job in every company. Decide what you want to do, join where you think the work matches closest. Remember: not all googlers are writing next search engine algo and not all Apple employees are innovating next big thing. Most googlers are configuration managers and most apple guys are maintaining existing software.
Yea, I’m in agreement. My point is that one advantage of Apple is you’re interviewing for a specific team. So you know if you’ll be working on something you’re interested in. If it’s a shitty team, don’t take it just because it’s Apple. Whereas at Google, I don’t think they do per team hiring (at least not for new grads), so you really have no idea where you’ll end up, and if you choose them it would be purely based on the name “Google”.
Hey.. Congrats on the offers. Could you please tell me after how many days you heard back from Google? I had my onsite about 10 days ago and yet to hear back from them. No idea about application status. Did you get any call regarding your interview result before hc review?
No. I dont think you will get to know anything before hc review. You can mail your recruiter and ask when your packet will be reviewed by the hiring committee. And you can expect to hear from your recruiter on that very day.
I’d say Apple simply because you can’t choose your team until a few months before you start with Google as a new grad.
Are you graduating with a Bachelors ?
No Masters
Congrats ! I didn’t read post fully so that woulda been my guess upon seeing ML
