What reasoning should be good and convincing? Serious issue. Sorry to not mention this earlier. But he is an international student. So he needs OPT from college which needs departmental approval and career center works with department. Department takes such cases seriously. He is yet to graduate. He needs OPT. If this helps, he reneged the offer from one FAMG for another.
Lol the career service can fuck off and keep doing their job

I am also an international student. You don't need departmental shit for OPT just working with your DSO. Now if it is CPT it's different
^ +1. The friend is a new grad with a job they’re happy with now so they don’t need the career center anymore.
This. Since you have graduated you should not worry. Ask career center whether they will give or find a job for your friend if he/she gets laid off or need a job in the future .

I don't have to explain, but anyway- He is able to read blind but not post it because he does not have a work account.
Who cares? At worst career services might not help them later on

No reasoning is necessary. Just ignore email. As long as you graduated, you are fine (probably are fine either way, but just being conservative). Career center didnt do anything for me either during undergrad or grad school. Who cares if career center is unhappy. İts your life, your job, your career, your salary. İ wouldnt respond. And if you do, say you found a better fit. Your responsibility is not to please the career center. İts to lead a successful, fulfilling life.

I did this in college - realized I wanted to go into a different field so reneged on an internship I got had gotten 5 months prior to take one in my field. They were pissed. I apologized and said it won’t happen again.

Yikes. Then that was quite frankly not a good move. Guess it’s worth groveling - not worth ruining chances of them not approving OPT. Though I would be surprised if they were assholes about approving his OPT still
Tell them to fuck off and in 2 months when they call for donations do the same
who cares. Employment is at will, on the flip if the company had to they would renege the offer to your friend in a heartbeat. The worst case is the career center will suspend his on campus recruiting, but it really doesnt matter at this point since he reneged for another offer.

Career center is there to make their image look good. Nothing happens down the line. And career center shouldn't be looking for a reason. I've been in the same situation. Look out for yourself, And if it comes down to salary or reputation/brand value then just say it

Terrible school if they're going to block OPT. The career center should be willing to understand. I'm sure there are anti-retaliation laws, it's just unethical otherwise.
