I'm a new grad moving to the Bay Area from the east coast. I'll be working in redwood city and will have a base salary of 115k. I currently don't know how to drive, so driving (at least for the first year) is out of the question. I'll be relying on walking, public transit, and Uber when needed. For this reason, I'm ideally hoping to find a place near a caltrain station. 1. What are good neighborhoods to look in? 2. What is a reasonable amount to budget for rent? I'd rather be financially conservative, but I don't want a place that's trash either. How much should I expect for a clean, decent place?
1. Redwood itself is a great place to live. 2. 1bd ~ 2k $
You don't know how to drive? Where you from? NYC?
Yup
No car no life...
New grad in Redwood City without car means no life
One thing I found when moving to the Bay Area is regardless of price you have to significantly lower your standards for an apartment. New construction is ridiculously expensive and older construction is gross and also expensive, so you can’t really win. I can’t speak to the exact situation in Redwood City but both Palo Alto and San Francisco make my old Atlanta $800/month apartment feel like a legit mansion.
Can confirm , moved to Bay Area from Florida where you get a 4 bhk for $1000 / mo with huge rooms. My room rent was 1000/4 and here I am using a guy’s Hall as a room for 850$ and I still feel this is at the lower end in Bay Area LoL
