New grad roles in specialized tech

Jul 17, 2018 1 Comment

Is it possible for new grads to work on specialized tech like CV, ML, route planning, etc? (yes, I like autonomous vehicles) And if so what sort of steps would I need to take? And which companies should I be looking at?

I have only a modicum of exposure to those fields (basically took a CS elective in each) and no research experience, but I'll be doing 1 year of non-thesis masters. I've had two internships at Amazon on very interesting teams but as a standard SDE intern expectedly doing plain full stack/web app work.

Without experience or a relevant phd that would be tricky. A nice back-door entry would be to start as data engineer. Build pipelines, deploy models for researchers. Learn from them and slowly start doing what they do
