I’d love some feedback. 10 years in sales selling advertising - mostly in the form of listings directly on company websites. First in the recruiting world, now with Zillow. im looking to move either in the tech, ad tech or SaaS direction - really anything that will keep me motivated and relevant for years to come. Ive been the top producer at every job almost every year of my career, but I dont get many hits on jobs in any of these industries. so my questions are: 1. Which industry is it easier to break into? 2. Suggestions on how to get a foot in the door thanks
Yep. I sure should have jumped along time ago. But I didn’t. OTE is 120 at 100%. I average 150-170 TC
You’re underpaid. Software sales are making 200k OTE minimum
Your underpaid...so am I. I just got 3 years and now I’m looking to jump. People are saying I should have sdr/bdr so it’s going to be an uphill climb. I’ve gotten traction by focusing on one segment of SaaS and then sending resumes tailored for that. If your coming from Zillow I would look at property software focused towards property managers, investment, etc. like CoStar
Ad tech. Very good pay
Look for a software startup, possibly starting as an inside sales rep/ SDR. You may need to take a pay cut initially but make it known that you're willing to do so for the opportunity to move to an outside role once you prove yourself. Also, SaaS sales is more than demoing and closing. Every company I've worked for expects the outside reps to do their own prospecting in addition to leads provided. The upside is $250k+ tc depending on company, product and role. Enterprise software is where the really good money is but you may need to look at a SaaS product that is a point solution to get into software. Good luck.
If I go back to ISR will I get stuck on the phones? That is what I’m most worried about :/
Taking an inside sales role is likely your easiest path to software sales. During the interview process make it clear you want to be an outside rep after you prove yourself inside. This is a logical path for most companies and it will show you're ambitious. If I hire an inside rep I want to know that want to get outside once they excel inside.
Thanks - solid advice. At this point, a point solution would be the only thing I could handle, lest my brain melt. I can move into a software sale most likely in my industry without having to go back a few steps, but I’d consider moving backward for big company. After some research and conversations - here is what I’m trying to figure out: is it possible to make $250k + TC and work 40 hours or at least a decent wlb? I made 180 TC in 2019 and worked an average of 38 hours a week
I have a friend at survey monkey working and warning that much enterprise
For me it's always been about getting the job done. Sometimes that means 30 hrs/week, other times it's 50+. Travel can also be up and down. The biggest factor in WLB is the company, a bad sales environment can cause ulcers, others promote time away.

Is it true many Indian couples are in sexless marriage?
If you wanted saas you should have jumped along time ago..when I’m talking to recruiters they want people with strong saas experience. Also you did not mention your TC
Geesh...nothing like a “should have” response when asking for advice
