Next car consideration older BMW M3 or newer M340i

My old car’s catalytic converter was stolen and it has been at the shop for a month due to no parts in California. California appears to require C.A.R.B. compliant catalytic converter which costs a lot of more. So I am considering my next car. It’s time to move to something else as I have been driving Japanese cars for 25+ years. I am interested in a BMW.

I would like to seek for recommendations. With a $60K budget, would you recommend an older BMW M3 or a newer BMW M340i? The consideration the retention and resale value.

    New M340i beats the old m3 in many aspects, and functionally if you’re not taking it to the track it beats it in all

    An older M3 will continue to have value in the future, the 340i will simply depreciate to nothing. Past that it really depends on what you want. If you want a fun car, older M3. If you want a cushy car with amenities like CarPlay go with a modem car.

    Personally I don’t like any of the recent BMWs. They all feel like land yards to me. Even the M2 was shockingly soft. Swapped it for a GT4 and now everything is better. Yolo,

      Thank you for the advice. I have seen M3s retain more value than the standard 3 series even after years. Man, GT4 is in a totally different price tier.

  • don’t get pulled into the m340i. bmw glammed model of the 3 series.

    while M3 may look similar is a totally different car
