The stock has a fair amount to ramp up so now is a great time to not only grow and learn but take advantage of the lower stock price in your comp negotiations.
Work life balance is great and a fully remote position is possible but the company officially supports hybrid system starting this Fall. Overall wfh depends on your manager and team but we observe twice the federal holidays (compared to Amazon) with several half days
When it comes to ratings, I do think there’s some sort of performance bucket you get put in and there’s refreshers in addition to your % bonus based on perf. I got one with my SDE1-2 promo so I assume I was the equivalent of “top tier” last year
I mean how else do you see if someone performs at the same level as the rest of the team?
If someone is consistently falling behind, they should leave the role or the team and find something they’re more suited to. Pivoting to improve and learn is not a bad thing unless toxic and forced like Amazon. Short term disruption aside (esp visa issues) a PIP is better for you long term rather than stagnating and doing low impact crappy work.
I recently read on Blind someone getting bullied to leave Amazon by their toxic manager and they joined DoorDash before the pandemic and made a million in their first year due to stock growth.
