Bad leadership, questionable product pivots, lack of technical excellence. Experience varies by team, but negative sentiment has been growing at an alarming pace over the past year.
Negotiate. Negotiate hard. No yearly raises, no refreshers, and bonus not as great as last years due to company performance. TC for senior is ~350 though it tends to be heavily based on options, which have questionable value. You will not be told the strike price at offer time, just internal valuation of options which you are getting. Take risk, ask for staff level, not much to loose.
Base will be high or above average. They will promise lot of stock options but those are not worth much so don’t count on them. Not to paint a doomsday picture, but bonuses are not as good as they used to be. There’s no direct relation between your performance and your bonus or promotion unless someone on the top likes you personally. If you are okay with keeping your head down and working quietly while people make irrational decisions, it’s not bad since the base will be above average if you negotiate. If you want to negotiate for staff, you could do that because the bar for staff eng varies a lot in the company. Some are laughable.
Thanks for your detailed explanation. How is engineering in general? I had only 2 technical onsite interviews in which interviewers looked great but didn’t get idea on engineering in general.
Line engineers are good. eng leadership and management is bad. The new svp might change things but I wouldn’t count on it.
