Nice area between MPK and SF?

Looking for housing advice. I’ll be starting at FB next month and will be moving from SoCal. I’ll be based in MPK and it’s looking like my husband will be working in SF (Financial District.) For his sake, I can’t imagine living in the MPK area. And I’m not crazy about living in the city. What’s a decent midpoint-ish area we should consider? Background: We’re in our early 30s, so we are past our clubbing phase. But it’d be nice to live somewhere walkable with cool dining spots and things to do...this area ideally should have easily accessible public transit because he won’t be driving. Help? Thank you! TC: $200k His TC: $250k

Any specific area of San Mateo? He probably won’t be driving - is there decent public transit there?

Station Park Green apartments. Easy Caltrain commute for both of you.

There's 3 Caltrain stations in San Mateo. Downtown and Hillsdale are both good options for things to do. Alternatively, he can drive to the BART (15-20 mins). About a 40 min BART ride to the FiDi and a 20 min Caltrain ride (express train) + 15-20 min walk.

Burlingame. It is pretty nice. You can stay within walking distance from Caltrain/Bart station.

We are in a similar situation and I’m not sure if midpoint is the way to go. Why not have a near zero commute for one of you, and then eventually have the other person also work in the same location?

It’s a 10/10 chance he’ll be in the city given his field. My chances of transferring to the SF office are unlikely. Either way, I’d have to wait at least 1 year to transfer to another department - and hope it’s in the city. One year sounds like a long time for 1 person to deal with an awful commute ... I’ve done the 60 to 90-min commute routine before and it was soul crushing. How are you guys handling it - living in the city or...?
