I want to find a senior level ux design job for professional growth that I can’t get from my current position. Last year I interviewed aggressively - Google, Linkedin, FB, Uber, Roku, VMware, Indeed, Walmart, Spotify, Wayfair, Paypal, Atlassian, Asana... Among these, I had 3 stopped moving forward after hiring manager phone screen, 5 stopped after portfolio review, 1 after online design exercise review, and 3 after onsite. No job offer. I did the interviews from March to June, and Oct. Now in 2020, I am starting job hunting again but I don’t know what I can do differently. Think about all the rejections in 2019, I feel hopeless and confused. What is wrong? How can I make it? YOE: 5-6 #ux #uxdesigner #design #interview
At least you got screened and not staright out ignored.
For some other companies that I didn’t list here, I didn’t get a call or email rejection at all. But thank you for your positive attitude.
I applied at 3oo companies, got repies from 2 and offers from both. You statistics are much better.
Did u ask for feedback? Always ask even if they won't give it to u.
Yes I asked. Very few provided me feedback which weren’t very helpful. One seemed helpful was “lack of product thinking” but still pretty broad
I highly recommend investing in a coach who will review your resume & portfolio as well as do a mock interview and give you feedback. It’s worth every dime.
I have been asking around but don’t know where to find a coach for UX design interview. Do you have an idea?
Google UX Career Coach
What social proof of your design skills you have, it might sound weird, but how often do you post to medium, dribbble, etc? How many other designers finding your work inspiring? If you haven’t or not doing that frequently yet - start up. It will give you good understanding how compelling you look/sound for the community. Also consider starting an instagram blog or youtube channel to improve your social weight
Is this necessary these days??
Designers are not sales men or women
I'm on the same boat. Want to connect and figure things out?
First congratulations on getting those interviews! Usually that means they see something that they like/curious about. Secondly, evaluate the way you present yourself and your portfolios. Did you make minor tweaks to make it slightly more relevant to the problems those companies are solving? Hunt and look at other designers with in companies you want offers from. What is missing from your portfolio? And etc etc

We haven’t seen your resume and we don’t know what positions you’re applying for. Nobody can help you without that.
