Avoid teams with only Chinese or Indians especially with a Chinese/Indian manager
I work as a contractor for a startup (almost 2 years) and had the chance to ask for a raise, so I did it. The CEO said it was fair due to my contributions to the team/project and it would work. After ~4 months nothing happened. Suddenly HR started pushing me to sign a new agreement that basically changes everything: cuts down my annual salary and removes all the equities I have. I haven't signed that and I won't. It looks like a low move to hold off the salary change or to force me to sign out because the product is getting traction and finally found the PMF. Very odd position. Not really sure what to do. If I should fight back / sign that shit / just move away from this freaking startup. Any ideas?
Fight it if they don't want your terms, move on. They are trying to play you like they do with most contractors unfortunately. Also consider how practical it is getting another contract/job since you provide no tc or living area but in general... Make them respect your work
Thanks, that helps. I wasn't sure if I should push back, I've been doing that for a while, but as you said, they need to respect.
This is a bad move from their side. Assume bad intentions and find better place if you could asap
U get equities as a contractor?
Yes. 0.8%
Are you an independent/1099 contractor or do you go through an agency? You sound misclassified honestly.
Independent contractor living outside US. No agency involved.
Find a new job.
Your best move is probably to move on, or see if you can convert to full time
You give zero context lol numbers please
Salary 119k, raise 10%, 0.8% equity
