Does anyone here (gay couple ideally) know if Progyny benefits usually work for gay couples having a kid through a donor and surrogate?

Would Progyny cover the IVF costs given that none of the 2 would-be dads are effectively patients at the IVF clinic?

I know that many companies offer cash allowance, but I’m asking if Progyny benefits come in addition to the cash allowance, to specifically cover IVF costs.

  • It depends on what your company plan is. Sometimes Progyny will cover the cost of the embryo creation process, but usually the surrogacy costs are not. Many companies offer a separate surrogacy benefit that might cover some of those costs.

Thanks. So you’re saying that the cost of IVF clinic could be covered by Progyny even though the surrogate mother is not a Progyny member, right?

    • It really depends—Progyny offers different levels of coverage by company. If one of the covered parties is the person donating sperm you should be able to recover at least some costs.
