Got a Senior 1 offer from HubSpot on the CMS team.
$170k base
$180k/3 RSUs
$15k sign on
TC: $230k (current TC 150k)
YOE: 6 (Austin TX, Remote)
My question is does HubSpot do yearly refreshers? If so what do they look like for the average engineer?
Excited about HubSpot, but without refreshers this offer won't be able to compete.

We don’t have a formula like “Senior SWE1 meeting expectations gets $X” the way some other companies do. Instead it’s based on the ratio of unvested stock to salary, which we call holding power. When you join, your holding power will be slightly above 1 ($180k unvested RSU / $170k salary). At comp review they figure out what your holding power should be based on role and performance in role, and then grant stock to get you there (simplified explanation).
Holding power decreases organically as stock vests, so refreshers are the norm. For example, after a year you’ll only have $120k in unvested RSU (since you’ll vest $60k) and your holding power will be ~0.7. So if your target holding power is 1, you would need a $60k refresher to get there.
But there are other factors that can affect refresher, like the stock price going up/down or the holding power ranges getting adjusted upwards.
