Avoid teams with only Chinese or Indians especially with a Chinese/Indian manager
Wife is a techie and recently moved to NYC for a job we couldn’t say no to. I’m a non-techie (Materials Engineer) with 8+ yrs of industry experience with past 3 yrs in a leadership role managing handful engineers and projects. Is there scope for someone like me to get into Amazon/Google in or around NYC and start growing there? I’m kinda topped out in my position and the next level up involves managing quite a few ppl in operations which would completely kill my WLB. That move would also tie me down further to the industry, making a pivot harder in the future. Current TC $160k
Amazon is hiring material engineers for the spacecraft program, but on the other side of the country.
Does Amazon see value in hiring people from other industries who have experience leading people & projects? I understand most roles there would need a background in software engineering, but at some point a product life cycle development probably looks very similar even across industries.
Not much in the software business as we expect those individuals to define vision and strategies for innovation in the software and its applications as well as to navigate complex industry specific challenges. That said, there are plenty of project and people management roles in the fulfillment network.
Dude start with front end offer from startup and then start leet coding. Who knows you end up in fang one day but make sure you stick to one Language through out.
They are so big they would have some use for a materials engr. But limited and that would also limit your career. Whereas if u were to go to a company whose primary business involves your skill you could go much further. My $0.02.
