Nonrefundable booking on booking.com

Hello Blind team

By mistake I ended up booking a non refundable hotel worth 3000usd on booking.Com for Paris. It was solely meant for visa application purposes so I m not actually planning to visit on those days. Is there anyway I can still get refund? The reservation is one month apart from now but still Hyatt hotel and booking.com is not very keen to help. I purchased this with amex platinum card which do not offer any travel insurance. Is there any way I can buy a third party insurance now and claim it on some medical ground last minute?

    Ignore the moral and ethics lecture being given in comments above. People, companies cheat and do fraud to the tune of millions and billions. Govt. is giving away your medical deducted from paycheck to leechers.

    Yes you can buy third party insurance within even a week before flying. Claim medical ground. Just visit a doctor with twisted ankle few days prior with unable to fly.
    I know my comment will get backlash. But we are being cheated everyday by ins. companies all the time. In a bigger picture it all evens out.

    Next time buy free cancellation booking. If you can afford 3000USd nonrefund..you can afford few hundred more

      if the reservation is non refundable I'm not sure a basic insurance will cover that

    Claim to Booking CS that you had the filter free cancellation on when you did the booking and it was never stated that it was non refundable during the check out, or at least it was not visible enough for you, so you booked believing (mislead by the site) that was free cancellation. With all experiments they run all time they can not prove how was the site looking for you at that moment. Tell them that you will do a chargeback if they don't cancel it, and do the chargeback with your credit card immediately if they reject your petition to cancel. You will win the chargeback and chargebacks are very bad for them.

    maybe you should just take the trip and something magical will happen with your partner OR you will meet someone. and then it will turn into a lovely story and be a hilarious memory to retell to your grandchildren.

    Call booking support, they call the property and do some form of negotiation. They might talk down that 3k to somethibg like 200$ or 0, depending on what the property says

      Leverage is not always necessary. Op said there is 1month still, hotel can cancel and book it for someone else.

      I know because i had to do similar thing for some reservation i could not use just last week.

    Make the card linked to reservation impossible to charge in any way (block, close, drain of funds).

    Sometimes it’s possible to update card details after booking. Try putting some useless card instead.
