I've been interviewing on/off 1 year now. I'd say about 30-35 interviews I've failed. Even the ones I thought really went well where I produced the results came back with rejection. I've been leet coding and reading about system designs and I feel like I'm going no where.

I get panic attacks in the night because I want to change so badly but time is just slipping away. I'm not getting promotion, don't have the enthusiasm to do current work and to top it off I'm failing every freaking interview. I see everyone around me flourish in their lives with new jobs, relationships, buying homes, traveling etc and this is making me super depressed that Im struggling just to make a small career change.

I should be able to do this but I just feel defeated and demotivated. What am I doing wrong?

Just putting this stuff in the universe. :(

    1) delete this app
    2) calm down and take a deep breath and be thankful you have a good job in a time where many don’t
    3) keep leetcoding

      1. This app helps me to vent out my frustrations sometimes and also good to read some posts.
      2. I'm trying. Im thankful for the job as it pays the bills but I don't have the greatest work experience in this company either.
      3. I'm doing it.
Thank you for responding. I truly mean it.

Social media does that you. Everyone else seems to be better off. Take it easy.

  • What’s your leetcode strategy?

    • Hmm, try instead to do the Blind 75, follow that up by doing the top 150 LC, then start doing FB, Microsoft tagged questions. That should cover your base pretty well, as a sanity check, recall all the coding questions you got asked and see if you are now able to solve them after solving these top problems.

Did you try getting feedback after the interviews? And did you work upon them?

  • OK first of all. I was in your boat. But more like 15 interviews. Your mental makeup is such that you would only see the good things going on in peoples life and compare yourself and feel miserable. Assure yourself that your mind is playing tricks on you and that you aren't seeing the world for what it really is. It's coming from a place of insecurity and desperation.

Now, regarding the interviewing. Competition is high. You gotta perform and be on point.
Have you made notes of what could have gone better after each interview?
Consider getting a paid mock interview or ask a trusted and senior eng/manager friend to mock interview you and give you feedback.
Really internalize the feedback and figure out what needs to change.
Cultivate patience. Just because we want something in a certain period of time doesn't mean we are meant to get it. We gotta prepare ourselves to be where we want. Rarely does life give you something you are not ready for. So make sure you don't ruin your reputation in your current job. Carry on studying and applying.
If you really want to. Switch asap and you know your problem areas, then consider taking time off - say a month prepare and interview.
