I've seen Nordstrom hiring a lot of swes. My question is, they have a good in-store business and their website is decent (nothing fancy). What do they need so many engineers for?
Fulfillment centers, warehouses, android and iOS app
Data science and analytics
E-commerce websites are pretty intricate
Nordstrom technology org is 3k strong and we have 200+ tech teams. I'm myself very surprised when I joined. Many things involved tech, e.g., payment, loyalty program, supply chain, inventory, warehouse, photo studio, item setup, customer profile, data science, analytics, mobile app, and finally the website. Note that each of the above that I mentioned have multiple teams.
Theres 700 devs.
The attrition is super high, ask yourself why that is
800~ heads where hired in tech, in 2021. Hearing trend is similar for 2022. Heavy in Supply Chain and Customer Experience areas. Attrition happens…. This year is is a bit high. From folks being here for 2-20 yrs 🤷🏻♀️.
