Ok so: I’ve been working at a small consultancy for 15yrs in a LCoL city in the Midwest. I make 110k. That’s decent here but doesn’t remotely compare to big tech.
I’m thinking I want to chase the money for a little bit. Not sure what comes after, but that’s what I think now.
My current position has given me good experience on the technical side, but also a lot of skills working with customers, doing tactical planning, and working autonomously with vague direction.
That’s all great but it doesn’t look like much on a resume. Im working on the interview skills so hopefully that’ll work in my favor.
I’d appreciate any input on:
- what level of comp to shoot for
- can I make it to my “right” level in one jump? Or do I have to job hop to get there?
I know it’s just my word that I’m as good as I say, but presuming I am and that I interview well, how do you think I should play it?

15 yoe should net your 250k plus easy.
You want competing offers otherwise it's a take it or leave it type of deal. 300 at e5 remote is very realistic. Can go up from there.
