I was interviewed for Nutanix SRE position recently. The interview went well. There are number of reasons to switch due to current job profile and I'm much more interested in Linux, networking and other technologies rather than testing and automation. After first round of interview the manager told me that I'm a good fit for engineering team rather than support team. I explained him why I want to switch from testing to support and in future want to move to DevOps. Do not go to nutanix SRE. DM me and we can talk.
+1 PS:- I'm not SRE
It’s all relative. Keep in mind OP
I’m curious to know why you folks mention not to choose SRE position ? One thing I know is that it would make your next job search tough to go to a non support position. Anything else ?
I’ve heard horrible things about the management at nutanix support. It’s basically old Indian men creating an h1b work camp. Bonus points if you’re a us citizen and get mandatory weekend shifts for federal customers Also nutanix isn’t profitable so any RSUs you get are a depreciating asset
I also got hit by RSUs badly. But, the weekend shifts are not frequent even for the Fed rotation, may be once per 2months. It is normal for any support role. So far in the companies I worked, I found less H1B employees in SRE teams. I’m not sure if you are speaking specifically about SanJose, where I saw a lot of Indian H1B folks
Why do you want to downgrade
I am just curious if you finally joined the SRE team? If so, how was your experience? Do you recommend it ?
