Nutanix vs Microsoft offer

Jan 3, 2019 39 Comments

I am a new grad software engineer with 2 years of experience before Masters, I have below two offers

Microsoft offer:

 Base: 117k
 Stocks: 130k (3.5 years) = 38k per year
Joining Bonus: 40k (2 years, 20 per year)
 Year-end bonus: 10~15% around 14k

Overall Compensation (first 2 years): around 188k

 Location: Seattle

 Nutanix offer:

 Base: 150k
 stocks: 130k (4 years)
 Joining Bonus: 0
 Year-end bonus: 0

 Overall Compensation (first year): 183k
stock refreshers: around 8k per year
base refresher: around 5% per year

 Location: San Jose

 Which offer seems good?

How much weightage should be given to base component?

Should brand name or location be given more importance?

P.S.: i did internship at FB and didn't receive an offer(about my account indicating I am from FB)

I’ve never heard of Nutanix, not sure if it’s just me.

    I would take MSFT easily.

Nutanix has great culture and I know folks who joined Nutanix from LinkedIn and liked Nutanix more because of challenging work, benefits, pay etc. On culture front, they liked both.

I am sorry 😐 but what pay and benefits are you talking about ? Nutanix does not even match 401k and if you want to brag about health benefits. Even LinkedIn has good health benefits with few dollars of kids day care covered. If you are talking about base pay then also LinkedIn pays you more than NTNX. The only reason why would someone join Nutanix is because of stocks RSUs and ESPP. I am not sure how much growth NTNX has in longer run. But if you are someone who likes taking risks and gain little money here and there then yes NTNX is for you but not for someone who is looking for stability and growth.

Nutanix doesn't have much of a future. Go to Microsoft.

Nutanix is full of Nepotism? And PANW isn't??? Lol your former president was employing his daughter there, and at his prior company.

Ya right this thread did not ask about PANW. I am not a loyal dog like you are. If I see the same issue with PANW I would report the same on blind. I experienced nepotism at NTNX. I am here to help people not companies. 🙂

Just curious, why didn't you convert to Facebook? Poor performance during internship or was it cuz you didn't crack their conversion interviews

It's a no brainer. You have higher tc in a state with lower tax, a better brand, a much much wider range of products to work with, and for the first few years of your career optimise for better mentors and brand. It really sorts your career. You can move to the Bay anytime

Comp wise , Microsoft looks better. Unless you really love Nutanix’s team or hate Microsoft’s team, I see no reason to choose nutanix over Microsoft
