I met with an executive recruiter today... they primarily place senior level management and c suite folks around the PNW. I mentioned I was interested in taking a look at Microsoft. She indicated working there is OK, but anything longer than 3-4 years and you become "tainted". I asked her what she meant, and she indicated that other companies don't like to hire managers from Microsoft because the skill sets that allow you to do well at Microsoft tend not to translate well outside of Microsoft. She said they have seen a very high rate of failure of senior MS people when placed outside of the company.
What are people's thoughts on this? Should I be looking elsewhere? Does a long tenure at MS on your resume "Taint" you?
