Having just been through an ipo, I feel that the pay off of a pre-ipo company is better than Faang (may not apply to all, but my previous faang offer I didn’t choose is lower than what I earned in Airbnb by a significant percentage.) So financial wise I am considering applying for another preipo for my next job. However I do hear ppls say that the reputation I got from Google or Fb is more than the small ones. Shall I try get in G or F for a few years to get the reputation? If yes, what is the minimum time there to be considered “countable”?

Was having Google on resume great? Yeah I had no trouble getting interviews literally anywhere even through covid slump

Will Airbnb provide the same benefit? Yes I don’t see why not, what trash tier tech recruiter wouldn’t have heard of Airbnb, so many of my smartest friends went there.

Go do what makes you happy and if somehow having F/G is what does it for you, go do it. If it’s pre-ipo, go do that. Don’t let blind with it’s random prestige simping make your decision.

I think the reputation is not just for recruiters. It affects how you are treated through the interview process, imo

Hmm I feel like as long as the company is good (Uber/Airbnb/LinkedIn/Robinhood/etc) and not no name, the bias is limited and your leetcode matters a lot more. But I could be wrong, I can’t speak for every interviewer. I still think it’s not a large enough difference to be worth being unhappy for 2 years to just get a stamp.
