I will leave my current company within less than a year. So signon bonus should be repaid back and no vested stock at all.

Can I negotiate with the new company to get some compensation for those two, in addition to regular base/RSU/signon/relocate/bonus/etc?

Everything is negotiable. Don’t listen to the people that don’t have success at it. In this case all you need to do is tell new company that you need X amount of sign on to cover the cost of repayment and your next vest that you are giving up to move. If you did reasonably well in the interview they will quickly agree.

  • Uncommon. But you usually only pay back prorated amount of sign on

The answer is neither “depends” nor “uncommon”.

Correct answer is “Hell yeah”. This is exactly how many people get a healthy initial grant. And that’s usually why companies give such generous grants during offer. To compensate for the loss of RSU you would be forfeiting.

  • Depends on your position, very common practice at director and above position.
