Hi folks,

Stuck in a dilemma regarding a situation. I am employed at Amazon as an SDE2. I have got an offer from Microsoft for L62 with the following TC breakup:

Base: 40 L inr/year
Stocks: 100k USD/4
JB : 3+2.5 over 2 years
Perf Bonus: 0-20%. Taking 10% as the median it comes to 4L/year

Total: ~64L/year

My current Amazon salary is:

Base: 43
Stocks: 5

Total: ~55L/year

I like the work at my team and have good growth scope in my current team as well. I do feel fairly underpaid, though, in terms of the value I bring to my team.

My questions are:

1. While it seems to be a no-brainer to switch to Microsoft, should I speak with my manager and try for a reactive D&S?

2. What kind of room do I have to negotiate with Microsoft on this offer? I will not be getting relocation benefits as location for both the offers are same.

YoE: 3 years

Sorry to say, is this salary looks underpaid for 3 yrs? How much you are expecting 1cr at 3 yrs experience?

      I know what's realistic and what's not.

Just for general information though, Rubrik does give 85L/year, all cash to folks. And I know people who earn this much with lesser total experience. I guess that is how the market is right now, maybe.

I don't even want or need that, that's putting too much pressure on myself. The direction I am approaching this from is that I feel (again, might be subjective to you) I am getting less that what I maybe could in respect to what I bring to the team.

      Hope that sets some context.

In absolute terms, not at all. I know I am lucky to be in this position.

However, I put in 8-10 hours daily on a consistent basis and drive projects.
There are people who have joined laterally in my team with lesser YoE and contribute far less that what I do but still earn 1.3-1.35 times what I do.

Given that, I do feel that I can do better.

Again, does not imply that I am not grateful to be where I am but I also put in more than my fair share for it

Go to Microsoft only if you wanna chill (get married or have kids or explore other things in your career or life). If you love your work and see growth, it's not a good move. People at Microsoft value their personal lives more than at Amazon, even if you work 12 hours a day you won't see as much growth at Microsoft as you would see at Amazon. Overall I feel Microsoft's culture is much better (people are good), but not something you're probably looking for. If you're happy at Amazon, stay.

As for compensation, you can ask for more stocks (~140k is doable), they won't move on base I think.
