OMICRON Experience Thread

Please give your experience here if you caught omicron.
Symptoms?
How long did it last before you felt better?
Testing experience?

I'll start. I've had 3x Pfizer vaccine shots (2x vaccine + 1x booster), I mask up everywhere I go, which for the past month has only been the grocery store.

Day 1: after coming back from grocery store I felt a sore throat. Took an at-home test, was negative.
Day 2: I had yellow phlegm. Went to testing site to take official test.
Day 3: Still have sore throat.
Day 4: Still have sore throat, waiting for lab results from Day 2 test.

I google'd and they said yellow/green phlegm is a sign of a cold/flu not covid, but the fact that I still have a sore throat on day 4 makes me think this is omicron.

  • 2x vaxxed with Moderna.

Came in super close contact with someone who had Covid (family members that literally stayed at my home for a few days).

After realizing the above person got Covid, started experiencing symptoms:

Week 1: Sore throat, a bit of a cough, and a runny nose at times. Headache will come and go. Was still able to do cardio workouts at home.

Week 2 (now): cough is gone. Throat is sore in the mornings but otherwise feel okay. Nose is a bit congested at times.

I got a PCR test in week 1 and results still came back negative πŸ€·β€β™‚οΈ.

This is not omicron. You would have been much more sick by the second or third day, accompanied with coughs.

Lmfao, her negative test result, and the general timeline of symptoms based on yes, Google and also anecdotal observation, from literally all of my friends, my family and myself having it.

Did you ever have green or yellow mucus?
It was an at home test taken on the day I first felt symptoms. I thought you need to give it a few days and then take a test for increased accuracy.

I’m in the middle of it.
    Day 1: diarrhea
Day 2: diarrhea, sore throat, fatigue, nausea, headache, mouth blisters, loss of smell
Day 3: lost voice, fatigue, nausea, vomiting, headache, chest feels tight
Day 4: fatigue, nausea, raspy voice, slight fever, slight cough
Day 5: nausea, vomiting (caused by a walk around the block), fatigue, headache

Got a PCR test on Day 0 (had to get one for my kid, so I just got one too because I knew I was exposed)

PCR positive result returned on day 5.

    • It is not because it is not directly funded that there is no biais. The Israeli research lab at the origin of many vaccine studies is getting money from Pfizer for other research projects. Do you think it has 0 impact on the research they do with the Pfizer vaccine?

  • My partner had omicron over Christmas. We're both double vaxxed + boosted with Moderna. His biggest symptom was a persistent headache for a few days. He only had mild symptoms for about 4 days and tested negative by day 4. Said he'd had worse colds. I never got it despite sharing a hotel room with him. Once he started feeling symptoms, he masked up indoors and we tried to stay outside mostly.

Lots of my vaccinated friends are now getting omicron but same deal. Pretty mild symptoms they get over in a few days.

I started feeling under the weather about 5 days after NYE where I was at a concert. Nothing too bad, but I assumed it was COVID. Went to get a rapid test Thursday, Friday, and today and they were all negative. Waiting for PCR results. All my friends who do have omicron tested positive with rapid tests. I'm already feeling better so pretty sure I just had a cold but who knows at this point.

Masks, especially cloth masks, are not very effective at keeping you from catching covid. Since it's airborne, social distancing doesn't matter as much as we'd hoped at the beginning of the pandemic. Good that you're vaxxed. Regardless of what you have, isolate at home until a few days after you no longer feel sick.
