I have an sde 62 offer from microsoft.
TC: 50 LPA ( base +stocks)
bonus : upto 20%, joining bonus : 4 ( 2 + 2)
Yoe : 7.5
I had applied for fall 2021 cs masters in US. I got an admit from Purdue university which is fairly decent college.
My ultimate goal is to stay in US. I was also checking out the option of internal transfer from Microsoft India. After reading some posts on blind, it looks like it is extremely difficult to get an internal transfer in microsoft.
Should i reject this offer and straight away go for masters in US?
OR
Should i wait for 1-1.5 year, try for internal transfer and if things dont work out, go for masters.
Has anyone been in this situation before? Please share your thoughts and provide suggestions.
Edit: For people who are considering 7.5 year work ex is too long and taking into consideration family and other stuff for making this decision.
Just FYI, I am married. Both me and my wife do not want kids for the rest of our life. We both are ambitious and want to explore more. For parents, I bought one flat, one car and I do not have any loans/debt/dependencies as of now. I come from extreme lower middle class family and I stayed here in India for 7.5 years only to finish all my responsibilities and to have enough money to fund my masters. Not everyone has the luxury to do masters straight after btech.

you will have many company to interview with
in 10 years staying in usa, you will make millions and when you convert to indian currency , it will be 5 times more you will ever make in india for whole career.
go for ms , hands down
There are hypocrite people who are making millions in usa and telling you to not come there
Such pathetic people
Such assholes and selfish guys are plenty
And yes, every single person who came to US is earning millions.
You can sit and debate with with me until I say what you want to hear, but sadly the facts don't change.
Like it or not, stay in India and build a good life there with such good TCs.
Reason is that this people don't want more competition in usa so they speak negative things only to change other mindset.
If they are really facing issues then why dont they come back instead of preaching others to not come there and increase the competition
Incompetent people will only guide you that dont come
Such assholes and selfish guys are plenty
See through their hidden motives!!
Go for ms
I am writing some reasons I had after giving some thought..would like to know your thoughts on them..
My reasons to study in US were -
1. Lower pollution, better infrastructure -> greater satisfaction.
In India, when you struggle in traffic on narrow puddled roads, in bad public transport, high pollution & high crime rate you feel frustrated that you are paying your taxes but still have such a low QoL.
The conversations in politics are at such a low level - they are just playing the religion game and deflecting conversations on development.
You can see that a decade or 2 later, India is still not going anywhere in this regards.
There is a lot of poverty and crime rate.
Women don't feel safe traveling late, wearing what they want.
It basically feels like just put your head to work, don't have any intellectual discussions about progress because you realise you are in a hopeless place and you don't want to feel depressed.
You have money to buy whatever clothes you want but there are too many creepy people on the streets so you would rather just not for your own safety.
As a society too, the expectations for women are set accordingly.
Not just people on the street, people in general are nosy and judgemental.
A simple example, irrespective of the gender, if a person gets a haircut /colour that is different from the norm, everyone around judges them instead of letting them be..
You see people getting ahead by flattering and buttering because that is just the norm here.
So many people including me look like a boring nerd intentionally because we have seen the ones not following the norm getting heavily judged (This is a very luxurious complaint to have, I realise that.. but it would be nice to not be considered weird/stupid/crazy for experimenting, the bar in western countries for being called weird is much higher I feel)
2. Less competition for future generations
Again, there's too much competition for lower salaries.
People go above and beyond what is required as compared to other countries. Thus, lower work life balance because you also try to match them in front of your boss.
So you start feeling like just put your head down and work all day and go home.
Don't watch the news because the lynching/rape news will chill your spine, avoid attention on the streets lest someone hurt you, don't wear what you want because people may hurt you (in best case, they will judge you), don't get that haircut you want because everyone will think you are crazy (just an example), don't express any opinion about the government since everyone around you, even the educated engineers seem to only have studied PCM and completely skipped Political Science.
Further in USA, even if you don't fully use the educational opportunities yourself, the best universities of the world will be available as an option for your kids. They will be saved from the rat race which won't end anytime soon as a lot of people will continue slogging to get out of poverty in the country in the next couple of decades as well.
3. Even if we return after a couple of years, would have saved a lot more than we would if we simply stay back. Additionally, would have travelled and had more interesting experiences than just living in Bangalore / Hyderabad.
4. Opportunity to work at the headquarters of tech giants, explore world while we are young..
5. FOMO - I don't want to grow old, bitter and depressed in India watching peers who weren't as good in school/college have an easier life in USA.
Cons
Away from family.. but in any case, they don't live in Bangalore so I wasn't going to live with them.
From what I have read, healthcare is very expensive in USA. God forbid something happens.. all the money one wants to save will evaporate.
Doing chores on your own
PS :
With update in H1B rules for selection on basis of salary/ skill.. things should get easier for non witch engineers right?
- An alternative is Europe / Canada but it seems the pay is not great compared to Indian tech scene and CoL in Europe. So might as well try to go to US.
Will update this list as I get more thoughts..
thought of having debate with amazon.
it was really fun
they are making millions there and dont want other to do it
