So this has been on my mind for a while now. I am almost done with my bachelor's in CS and have a pretty good job offer in hand (although nothing by blind standards).

Is masters in CS worth it? And I don't mean it just monetarily.. do you think u r a much better person compared to your younger self in India? Do you think a 5 year (masters + opt) stint is good given I'm young and I'll get to experience USA. I'll have to take up a loan through, I'm not really rich..

Does the degree help u down the lane if u were to come back to India? Professor when u r 40 or something? Idk maybe I'm thinking too much.

I have always lived with my parents and I feel going abroad is a good way to grow as a person.
A little bit of FOMO too since every1 around me is going for it.

How is the job situation btw, I really really want to work in NYC.

IF u cd go back in time wd u choose to remain in india?

  • I don't agree with people on blind. Taking the experience of living in a different country is great but not at the cost of your freedom. You don't get a wholesome experience of living in the US as you'd like to think of it, ofc due to so many visa hassles. Go to Hyderabad, Bangalore. They're great cities to grow as a person and learn to live by yourself (without the burden of the loan and the fear of being deported). Also they give new grad offers to MS candidates so not worth it professionally too. I think a bachelor's in the US is the only opportunity that makes sense for indians in today's situation.

    • too lazy to type. I wrote toefl, applied, got admission from purdue, did not go. I chose to stay here because finance wise it did not make much difference to me. I regret that decision every single day of my life. My priorities in life are not same as when I was 22-25. It will happen to you as well. You are still young, go out and explore. You have nothing to loose. If it does not work out, you can always come back.

  • BEST thing that’s happened to me in my life. I am a much much better person since I came to US. As an introvert, I always been an obedient child under control of parents.

Simply moving out, living independently in a foreign country, taught me to take care of myself better, be it money, habits, cooking, etc

Don’t know how it has been for you, but this is a bliss for me as a introvert.

I don’t need to comment about opportunities in USA.

Yeah I'm definitely your former self, but was it the US or just living alone that taught you that stuff?

Also how hard is getting a job? All I had to do was LC and give some interviews in India..

Is it worth it if u come back after 5 years?

Get 2yr work exp and then go for it. Easier to get internship and job later.

Usa gives freedom only if you can afford it (150k+ tc). It's struggle for the middle class

Work in india for 1-2yr and then go for ms.
You know it's a competition. Having prior work exp gives you an advantage over those who don't.
