As Apple teams interview independently and there is no company wide cooldown period, I had a chance to interview with 5 backend teams at Apple. Some reason, my resume attracted to Apple. It could be because I use similar stack they are using, java, cassandra, hbase, spark, kafka and k8 and I donโ€™t have any FANG experience, so easier fish to fry. FYI I couldnโ€™t find someone moved Google/Meta to Apple, but always small companies to Apple, so Iโ€™m good fit.

I noticed that all teams I interviewed so far is Indian heavy. I talked to Maps, Siri, Infra, AI infra. Most ICs are South Asian, managers are all South Asian, even skips are South Asian, director is South Asian.

Why is this empire building happening?

  • It's because engineering colleges are cheap in India. Middle class can afford it. India is producing a lot of engineers.

Walmart, I have not seen anyone on blind talk about memorizing leetcode. The closest I have seen is folks revisiting the problems to ensure they can still solve it. No matter how well versed your fundamentals are, you need to deliver in 45 mins in the interview. Itโ€™s not like you have more time to peacefully write code like in your day-to-day job.

Anyway, Iโ€™ll give you the benefit of doubt and say that you have teamed up with not-so-good engineers. But even then I would never categorize the whole country/race just from my co-workers.

Walmart your first reply literally says "they" referencing indians multiple times and is nothing but a racist rant. I'll quote it here in case you edit this later. What Walmart said:

      > Most of them just memorize stuff without understanding the fundamentals. I have worked with lot's of them. They end up suffering from burnout due to the struggle to solve problems from first principles. Take a look at how they approach Leetcoding. No one who understands algorithms from first principles will need to practice 100's of LC problems just to pass an interview.

How is this not mentioning a particular ethnicity ? You have only given one vague example and all your arguments are anecdotal and honestly sound like bad hiring/culture problems. I don't agree with Google dismissing you because you work at Walmart but you you really need to understand that your arguments against an entire race of billion+ people have literally no support whatsoever.

  • And why does it bother you? Who are you? Talents get recruited in top companies and I have seen all ppl but never predicted anyone's nationality like you.

So you are racist only to south Asians ? Having more south Asians are unhealthy ?? Please define what your definition of heathy mixes are . All these tech companies are desperate for talent . They donโ€™t give a damn what the race is . Iโ€™m a hiring manager and my main priority is talent and hiring quickly , so that it helps me and my team be successful . Code thankfully isnโ€™t racist and it works despite who writes it , so I donโ€™t care about race . If south Asians grow their teams , what is your actually your concern ?

  • Why is it empire building only when Indians do it ?
    Mar 5 7
    • Lol no. So youโ€™re agreeing with Google? That they canโ€™t move up the ladder just because of the language barrier? Iโ€™m just adding more possible factors in general from what Iโ€™ve seen around the past few years, from a few studies/articles, opinions from people of both races online, etc and even heard some of it from people of both races at work.

If youโ€™re just gonna keep saying bias/stereotype then at least add something to support your point lool

    • Seriously? just look up the definition of racial stereotyping.

Both Google and you are wrong. I am not in the education business to educate you.

Itโ€™s natural tendency that companies gravitate certain nationality over time. Meta attracts Asian ICs. Amazon, Apple and NVIDIA attracts Indians. Uber is more asian. Google is mixed but I feel skewing a little more on Asian side. Microsoft is more asian. People refer their friends and family and can be biased on interviews to their own kind. So this is a natural tendency.
