Working as an AEM Architect in Cognizant Canada. Looking for a career change after moving back to India next year

Mar 10, 2021 4 Comments

Hello,

I am currently employed in Cognizant Canada as an AEM architect which is 60% Java and 40% front end technologies like React for 5+ years. But I have to move to India for good next year due to family constraints. However, the salaries in India doesn't look good for AEM as the scope is only limited to service based companies. I would want to make a career change to a more productive technology stack and move out of the service based companies.

I have started preparing on Leetcode and DS/Algorithms. I am aware that I may not get calls at all from reputed companies due to my background and YOE. I wanted to know how do I go about approaching this in the right direction? Should I remove my experience with AEM specific work in CV and LinkedIn? How do I network properly so that I may get opportunities to work on a different tech stack? Should I build and display any work on Github on a specific tech stack that I have not worked in my career yet? Any help will be appreciated.

Stack sounds great to me. Why do you want to remove your AEM specific work? You have high yoe, don't sweat the small things. focus on leetcode and interview prep.

    • I have heard product specific experience gets a bad rep on CVs for non service based companies. Hence, I want to make it look like I have more transferable skills with Java and React and not product specific. Also with 9 YOE, (10 when I'll return), interviewers will expect more system design experience which I only have with implementation of AEM product and Adobe Marketing Cloud. Not sure how to fill in that gap.

I certainly don't have much exp as you, but you can convey all that through interviews. Highlight what you did with React/Java in your resume. You'll be expected more system design, that's correct, only way to fill that gap is through prep. Grokking the system design interview, youtube videos, gaurav sen, and other resources should help.

Ever decide to come back to india, hmu if you need a referral here. The stack is a good match.
