For ex-Amazonians, what ultimately drove you to the decision to leave?

If not TC or PIP, why did you decide to leave instead of internally transfer to another team within Amazon?

Blind tax: 8 YOE (all Amazon), $205k TC (non-tech)

Started having problems with my wife because of work, almost became alcoholic and when I discussed this with manager, his response was “ I didn’t know you were working 15 hours everyday, why were you doing that?, I didn’t ask you to work this hard”

Funnily enough, I got paged then and had to leave 1:1 to attend that.

6 months later, I was out of Amazon

    • This is a classic comment from managers: I didn’t know that. Happens a lot in consulting as well. I guess this experience is an eye opener for you as managers don’t care about the sacrifices you make in your life

I haven’t left yet, but am looking at my options. Drivers 1) management changed and I went from being on a promotion path to reporting into someone on the same level as me on their own promotion path, with no more scope left for me to get promoted; 2) the pay is crap, my friends who have left are making double the money.
