Need advice- The Indian consulate website says you need a preapproval for Tatkaal passport issuance ‘in-person’. Is this right ? #workvisa #passport

Does anyone have recent experience renewing their passport at SF consulate via Tatkaal?

    I did Tatkal passport renewal in SF in last few months. There are a few criteria to qualify for Tatkal. I only visited FedEx to drop off and got passport (old and new) via FedEx. Didn’t visit the consulate in person.

    Note this wasn’t emergency passport issuance.

    Not recent, but did it 5 years ago. I had a business travel coming up and needed to apply for visa. My passport was going to expire in 3 months but the visa needed atleast 6 months of validity. So, went to the consulate, showed them a letter from my company about upcoming travel, wrote a tatkal request letter. They approved my case, gave me some approval letter and i took it to vfs office nearby.
