Hi TPMs at amazon. I am considering a TPM role with amazon music team. Hiring manager mentioned that they would like me to come at L6 and then grow in to L7. They mentioned this will give me opportunity to grow rather than coming at L7 which is pretty much terminal at amazon.

Offer: 185K base
160 number of RSU
300k signon split over two years

I am ICT5 at Apple.

How many additional RSUs one get from L6 to L7. I am assuming no base increase or cash bonus given that I will be capped on base. #pm #productmanager

ICT5 should map to L7 amazon. you would be downlevelling yourself by taking L6

Music has a HUGE on-call problem (too many SEV2s). I have had 2 SWEs coming to my team from theirs. Come to ours. DM for details, we have an L6 TPM position open.

@Fr@12Grew: Can you please tell me what’s the difference between a product TPM and a product manager in your org. From what you described it seemed to be somewhat closer to what a product manager would do. I am not very familiar with these job functions so just trying to understand.
      Thank you

No problem, let me try. The way I see it is functioning is that a Product Manager will make sure the requirements of the customer experience are nailed down, the UX is understood and that the tenets/guardrails in which the engineering team needs to operate are clearly defined (i.e you can only show 10 cards per user on the Ambient Home screen for example). This PM operates within the boundaries of a specific product launch or set of product features, they don't care who builds them (one team, two teams? away team?), how they build it (functional design) or how the engineering teams prioritize their asks vs. other asks from other PMs. A TPM does all of those things PMs don't care about; PMs just want to fulfill the use cases and label them done/launched (the what). The TPM is in charge of figuring out the how. I hope this makes sense.

Why would you move from Apple - take a level lower and potentially lower comp? Makes no sense.

Promos are hard in any company and a political process. At Amazon it is even more so. I know employees at L6 level for 8+ years working their butts off with no reward.

Apple ICT5 is pretty much terminal.
I would rather get the pay bump but lower level and then get promo

What is the first year pay at Amazon vs total what you make at Apple? Is this for Product or Program?

Also do you plan to commute to the city for this role post-COVID?

I am ok to be at L6 as long as there is a path to L7 near term.

Does anyone know how the promo look like in terms of numbers which is what my post is about :)

If they’ve already given you the offer, that means you were leveled at L6 by the loop. The HM has no choice, but might be trying to soften the blow. That base is capped at 185k. What was the estimated year 1 comp in the offer shared from recruiting?
