Hi guys. Just had an interview on Karat for a new grad role at Databricks. I did very well except the fact, that interviewer first of all told me that data will be in one format, then in the test case it was in another format, so one of my helper functions had a small bug in it.

The interviewer said, that everything was great(communication, problem-solving, etc) and that he will also take this situation into the account, but that's not a full score for the question.

Do I need to do a redo??
If that wasn't for Karat and I didn't need to compile and run the code, I wouldn't think anything and would go just prepare for the next round, but after reading other stories about Karat interviews, I am in doubt right now.

Would appreciate any thoughts on this topic.

  • I recently did a Karat interview where I answered the question correctly and verbally confirmed I didnt need to do input range validation. We even moved on to the second question, which I didnt have time to completely finish but was well along. They failed me for “not completing any coding assessments” as the first one “failed a test case deemed after the interview completed” (all given test cases passed fyi, i verbally identified another edge and I asked if I should bother handling it).

So i demanded the company who hired karat have an engineer look at my interview. The HM looked it over and said they should move forward with me. Fuck Karat. I would ask the recruiter to tell support to give you another redo even after 24hr and ask someone to watch the vid if you fail. Fuck karat.

Thanks for your comment. Makes sense to me. So, I guess, I will wait for the results of the interview and in case of bad feedback, will reach out to my recruiter.

The platform also seemed very laggy to me. Code completion was pure garbage.

  • How many questions did you complete? I also had new grad Databricks karat yesterday and took a redo today. Did almost 2 questions yesterday but did 3 questions with all tests passing today. Normally it's said that we atleast need to complete 2 questions

I solved 2 questions, but as I said, my interviewer misguided me with data format, so my parsing function wasn't handling all cases in the 2nd problem. I scheduled a redo after Karat sent me an auto email, that feedback is sent to the recruiter. After that, the recruiter reached out to me and said that everything is fine, so I can cancel my redo interview. Hope that helps and good luck in your job search.

Whenever I did a redo I got called for onsite irrespective of how many questions I solved in both attempts.
On the other hand in couple instances I had solved 2 questions completely in the first attempt (didn't bother to take redo as I felt I did well) but got rejected.
So I always redo Karat interviews
