Offer Advice

Have an offer from MongoDB for a team that works on a part of their Atlas product. Offer is $135k base + $25k RSUs/yr + $15k sign on (not yet negotiated). Really like the team/product, but this offer isn't an increase over my current TC. Still interviewing with other companies, but what would be a good number to shoot for if this ends up being my only offer? Not a lot of data for MongoDB out there. TC $160k YOE 1 @ Bloomberg

Are you looking for a lateral move because you're unhappy in your current role?

Bloomberg Egfp24 OP Jul 3, 2019

Yes. Have also been offered an internal transfer to a different Bloomberg team which I am also considering

Early in career you can put TC aside. What experience do you think will yield the best TC on your next move? Of course negotiating is important but don’t put all your decision on that.

Bloomberg Egfp24 OP Jul 3, 2019

Absolutely. I'm only looking for a change because I don't feel I'm getting valuable experience in my current role. I think this role would get me good experience, it's just that the offer feels like a decrease from my current TC since it's not all cash

So OP, are you planning to go back to general tech? Why not dive into financial field?

@egfp24 I left my finance job last year and joined mongodb. My TC was a bit less last year but what I was exposed to and my overall happiness improved quite a bit. It depends what’s important to you. Stay in finance If it’s all about the money but I see myself being much more marketable now than if I stayed. Mongodb also offers yearly refreshers so I would suggest doing the math on what that looks likely and see where you might be in 2 years time. Good luck!
