Blind tax: tc 190k, 2 yoe My job search has narrowed down to these two companies, I love both products from the bottom of my heart, and everyone I spoke to were friendly so it's a very difficult decision. Reddit: tc 200k, 150k base, the rest is paper Twitch: tc 200k, 145k base Excuse my word vomit and mobile formatting, here are my personal thoughts on both offers: Reddit pros: 1. level match (sde2) 2. team leans senior, opportunity for technical mentorship is important to me 3. potential for high growth and impact (ads org) 4. potential for very successful IPO (in my opinion at least) Reddit cons: 1. paper money 2. team might only lean senior because people are over leveled 3. More immature dev environment and processes (no virtual machines for development yet) 4. I would want to relocate to SF, I know reddit is remote friendly but I prefer being in the office Twitch pros: 1. Liquid comp, lots of room for comp increase from future promo/refreshers 2. Opportunity to learn AWS tech stack 3. Cool gamer points ™️, with the backing of Amazon for stability Twitch cons: 1. Down level (top of band Sde1), future manager expects promo in 1 year 2. Most of the team is in SF so I might consider relocating anyway 3. Team leans junior (no one higher than Sde2), concerned about lack of technical leadership/mentorship as well as room for future growth. Would love to hear opinions from both current and past employees at reddit/twitch. Thank you everybody in advance #offers #reddit #twitch
Your TC is $190k in what I presume is Seattle and your looking to jump for $200k in SF? Isn't that a significant pay cut? Between the two I'd choose Twitch since I'm guessing they give Amazon stock. Is it the typical Amazon vesting schedule or split evenly over 4? Is Reddit giving options or RSUs? Honestly can't really go wrong either way. The level downgrade does suck though, but honestly TC matters more.
Amazon vesting schedule, reddit is giving stock options. I suppose I'm willing to take a pay cut for growth opportunities and access to bay area companies, I'm early in my career so likely to be moving companies every 2-3 years or so anyway.
Do you not like your current role at Dropbox? Unless you don’t enjoy your current position or what you’ll be doing at the new company is significantly better than what you do now the compensation bump doesn’t feel worth it
I think that's totally fair, for context I'm looking to get out of Dropbox before virtual first (forced remote work), my team also keeps getting shafted by re-orgs. So looking for a lateral move not a pay bump.
At your YOE prioritize career growth opportunities, you’ll make more TC in the end as a result
^ this. Yes, career growth should be factor #1 given how early you are in your career. A few other things to account for: - lots of talk about Amazon employees being less happy at work (I don't mean any offence here, just saying what I've heard) - this is a personal, but working in person from the HQ is usually best for career development and progression - the ads team at Reddit has a reputation for being a great team overall if not the best team there. They are also going through a hyper-growth stage. - SF/Cali is my more expensive than Seattle, but Reddit has much bigger upside, so this could compensate the worse comp in purchasing power
as a student i’m kind of unaware of what the game plan should be as a new grad. should you stick with the same company from E3 -> E4 -> E5? how long should you stay with one company? when is the ideal time to jump companies for salary boost?
Come join us! It will be fun! I’d say if you value cash, try to push twitch for more. Their rsu is liquid and should be able to give out more. If you value learning/upside and less risk adverse, it’s a good time to join Reddit now.
At the stage you're at in your career, you should optimize for learning and growth potential above all else unless you have specific need for liquid comp today (ex kids, want to buy a house soon, etc). You'll be able to double your comp over the next ~5 years with the right mentorship. If you think Reddit's a better growth opportunity, it's a no brainer. Personally, joining Reddit was the best decision I've ever made in terms of accelerating my career. Also, if you'd prefer to live somewhere besides SF, Reddit has offices in NYC and LA ;)
Total B.S.. there s no growth potential here.. I know lot of folks at Reddit and they are appalled by the lack of infra / tools / direction for the product.. the have a simple website which they have not innovated since ages.. they are yet to add any good recommendation / personalization to it.. very beginning stages while other companies of such scale have moved significantly faster.. I would never recommend
Damn your attitude really makes me want to work at Amazon...
Have worked on a project with Twitch before and also interviewed with Reddit.. Can definitely say Twitch by all means!!
Reddit is immature and lot of things are in infancy
^ this is who you'll be working with at Amazon...
Twitch, mostly because i love that product.
Twitch has been a blast to work at especially these past few years — I will say which team can affect your experience. Feel free to DM if you want. I’m sure Reddit has a lot of potential too but speaking as someone who has never worked at company that had to think about scale, I’ve learned a lot in my time here and have been happy with the choice

Question about women in their 30’s?
Tough call. Reddit has more upside IMO than Amazon.
Twitch operates differently from Amazon.. free food, lot of Perks, cooler offices, swags, lot of smart engineers and the platform is growing and powerful.. reddit is a famous yet very stagnant product..
