I work for a small startup that's not going anywhere. I started interviewing and have two offers in hand.. FB: TC $290k. Will be joining their infra group- E4 Cruise: TC $320k Senior Software Engineer Software Engineer Experience: 8 years Location: Bay area/SF Heard lots of bad stuff about FB Infrastructure team.. such as thier long working hours.. FB do give out bonus and RSU refresher.. However I am not sure about Cruise.. How is Cruise's RSU refresher policy? Not sure if I should join Cruise or FB.. If cruise also have generous RSU refresher policy then pay wise both will kinda be same(few thousand here and there doesn't matter). In that case joining Cruise is better considering they are still small enough to grow faster.. However there are few unknowns about Cruise.. such as RSU refresher policy, PSU vesting etc.. if Cruise doesn't change my pay for next 4 years then FB pay will be much higher.. in that case I would like to join FB.. It will be great if I can get insides from current cruise employees..
Cruise does PSUโs which arenโt formulaic on personal performance as far as I understand. Depends on company hitting goals. At FB your RSU refresh is mostly dependent on personal perf.
Yup, 50/50 RSU and PSU
Is this an ic3 or ic4 cruise offer?
Offer letter just says senior software engineer.. I asked HR, HR said they shrinked the levels.. so there is no IC3/4 now..
What! Since when? I just received an offer last week and was told the ic3/4 system was alive and well
personally i would choose Cruise too. this is a hot industry that will get more demand and growth in the future
290k for E4? Is that just first year? Whatโs the breakdown
Does that 290k include sign on bonus?
Probably ๐
FYI periods consist of one dot, not two..
Depends. Cruise will be the more interesting working environment and more impact. Surprised to see them beat FB on offer. Cruise is a bit of an unknown quantity for moving to your next job. FB will look better on your next job search unless Cruise manages to really stay on top of their game. If you're in SF proper commute to MPK is gonna suck. If FB is bootcamp track you'll have a fair range of team choices. Overall, Cruise seems like the better choice if you are a gambling person and FB the lower risk option.
Are you including PSU as a given/definite in the TC calc? If so I'd re-evaluate based only on the RSU half as a sure bet.
Yes. Counting PSUs as well.. vesting over 4 years..
PSUs don't vest over 4 years. Could be anywhere from 2 to 8+

Personally, I would join Cruise. More interesting work, more potential to grow, better comp, better location, more seniority
