Hi blinders

Please help select the offers

LinkedIn: Sunnyvale
Base - 160k
Bonus - 10%
Sign on - 40k
Rsus - 230k over 4 yrs. (25-25-25-25)

First year tc: 270k
Second year tc: 230k

Google: Kirkland
Base - 127k
Bonus - 15%
Signon - 21k
Rsus - 178k over 4 yrs (33-33-22-12)

First year tc: 225k
Second year tc: 205k

After tax difference over 2 yrs: LinkedIn +6k

Update: Google tc will start increasing with the refreshers. LinkedIn refreshers are not guaranteed.

Both offers are for L3 equivalent and final. Google simply declined to increase. If G and LinkedIn had equal prestige I would take LinkedIn for sure because of the location. Please share your thoughts in comments.

People voting for LinkedIn, please explain your reasoning in comments.

Currently at OCI:
YoE: 1
TC: 210k in Seattle

Thanks

  • 1) Stadia is a dying org.
    2) LinkedIn changed it’s refresher policy. If you perform well you certainly get a refresher + automatic fix for people hitting a cliff.
    — obviously I am biased but just my 2 cents.

That extra 40k of LinkedIn offer will be wiped out by CA tax and expenses.
    Take G.

      Yeah
G's attitude was very off-putting for me. I know that shouldn't affect my decision. But the recruiter was like... LinkedIn is also a good company. I'm sure you can try at Google later.

Go for LinkedIn. Especially if you liked your LinkedIn team more than Google Team

  • MSFT stock has done very well the past few years (outperformed Google) and I think it is more realistic to move up quickly here, especially coming in as a SWE.

Benefits are good at both companies and both have good WLB.

Location wise you have some flexibility with LinkedIn since you are only onsite a couple of days per week. (Eventually)

Both options are good and should give you strong career path as long as you stay for a couple of years. Is there anything about the teams or locations that might be a significant factor for you?

There is some concern around stadia not doing well as a product
I think it should be around for a couple more years at least. I will like the work at both the places as far as I can tell. I do prefer bay area as a location but I also prefer Google brand personally

If sunlight is very important to you then take LinkedIn. The money is more or less comparable but the weather might take a toll on your mental health. Have stayed in Seattle and absolutely hated it. No offence to the folks in Seattle, just talking from my personal experience.
