Offer evaluation

Was an intern got full time offer. YOE before Master's: 2.5 Company: VMware Location: Palo Alto, CA Position: MTS2 Base: $130k Annual Target Bonus: 12% RSUs: $50k over 4 years Sign On Bonus: $30k Relocation Bonus: $16.25k Interviewing for other positions, But no other competitive offer. Should I negotiate more? If yes, how? Should I be satisfied with this? P.S. This is after negotiation, Saying I will cancel other interviews if I get better and this is the changed offer.

This is really good for VMware as a new grad. Do you mind sharing the numbers before the negotiation?

It was $40k RSU and $20k Sign On

If you are a competent developer, with a higher degree, and a couple years of experience; you should probably be looking around elsewhere. 130k will be difficult in Palo Alto where housing is quite pricey (doable, just not comfortable). For reference, my first offer out of college, with my B.Sc. after 2 years of experience, was around 150 and that was nearly 10 years ago, in WA. I'd be willing to run through a brief interview with you to help you target what's going on.

Right now as I don't have any competing offer I am not very sure how do I subtlely negotiate and don't sound demanding. If I would have had an offer I could have been asking for changes. I have heard the average base a new grad gets these days in bay area is between 120k-145k. It would be really helpful if you give me some help on how to negotiate even after not having another offer?

DMed you. But I would say you definitely can be arguing on cost of living alone in Palo Alto. You're gonna shell out an extra 5-10k versus the city just for living there. As for other offers, most of the advice on this site is right. LeetCode and read. Read everything. I've got a ton of resources I can DM you if you need.

You should ask for 150k$ stocks. The returns get 150k$

I don't have any competing offer, when I said that I was expecting $80-100k RSUs they increased it from $40k to $50k. I am right now interviewing, But I am not sure what would be the offer by the companies I am interviewing with, How do I negotiate for more RSUs?

Salesforce newgrad01 Sep 6, 2019

Ask again, say 50k$ is too less, and u expect 100k$ of stocks and see if they budge. Let them say - this is it , we can't increase anymore

VMware swearengen Sep 6, 2019

VMware is stingy with RSU, $50 is good. But you can always tell them you would like $75. You are, after all, telling them you will be staying the 5 years to collect that total.

VMware None. OP Sep 6, 2019

I will try that, Thank You!

How much did you finally get ??

VMware kitretsu Oct 23, 2019

Did you accept their offer

VMware None. OP Oct 23, 2019

Yea I did, To answer vmwear as well, I got a $10k hike in signing Bonus. That was the final change. No changes in RSU and Base.

VMware kitretsu Oct 23, 2019

Did you had any competing offer ?

VMware None. OP Oct 23, 2019

Yes, But I never wanted to go to that company. Plus it wasn't in Bay area my manager and recruiter were aware of it.
