So, I got an offer from Amazon for SDE 1 in India. But, I am planning to move for my Masters in US in CS from a top 10 school. I was reading through the earlier posts and found that Amazon has decreasing/stopped hiring new grads? I have about 2.5 years of experience, and have also cleared the interviews for Amazon here in India. I wanted to know the following: 1. I have 2.5 years of experience, will I still be considered as someone out of grad school with 0 experience. 2. The offer I got here, I will most likely reject it since I am going for Masters, just wanted to ask, is there any way I can use it for either getting intern or FTE when I am in US?
What's your TC ?
Would you be interested in knowing my TC in India? It would be peanuts as compared to what you earn in US.
It really depends on what value you bring to the table. I worked at a well known company in India. I did not join at entry level position after my Masters. But I've seen several cases where this has not been the case.
Take the Amazon offer. If you want to come to US, you can do so on a L1. This is if job is your primary target after graduation. You'll save a lot of money. However, if you want to do PhD and have other aspirations then get a Masters. Depends on the company, Google and fb will most likely hire you at entry level. Amazon may or may not give you sde2.
Just be aware of the fact that if you want to settle in the US, masters won’t help you at all. You will be stuck in the line for green cards for next 80 years. May be someone will deliver the green card to your tombstone. So, work at Amazon India and come to US with L1 visa. The current line for GC is around 3 years for L1 visa holders.
For L1A, which is international manager category. And visas are under lot of scrutiny right now. SDEs come on L1B. They have to get h1b and then apply for gc.
^ google is correct. You have to move to L1a or h1b.
Yeah gc using L1 is not easy.
I bet its easier than waiting for 80 years.
1. The big companies consider you as a Fresher if you have graduated from a university with in the last 6 months. (Even Masters) 2. You can use your experience in interviews. However, you have to interview again for either internship or Full time
lol no u have to give interviews again. They may not consider your prior work exp, as it doesn’t matter unless you had some kind of special skill. At the end of the day they won’t even care if you have masters or not and what they care is if you can clear their interview at that time.
1. You'll get entry level positions. Having said this, you can use your experience to get a job. (Better chances to get calls) 2. No.
Negative. in amazon.. in 2 years sde1 becomes sde2.. so if they have hiring your at sde1.. you are not clearing the bar.. which will be negative

Best LCOL or MCOL city?
Usually from what i have seen.. companies do not consider india experience unless its from a well known company..
I have worked for 2 years at Expedia. Will it be considered as a well known company?
Usually if you go back to work for the same company chances are that they will consider your previous experience. Otherwise prev exp is just a talking point
