Forgive me for not disclosing offer numbers, it is less important.... than my fear of the work life balance of the potential team. Basically, project is part of the spg group for something new(AR related), all interviewer and manager and directors all from previous game industry and are game programmers and leads. I heard that game industry work style is a lot crazier compared to general software engineers in big tech companies. I am worried that the same culture will carry over there and people will work overtime a lot. Anyone know what teams I mean can speak about my concern? Thanks a lot!
Which Google PA are you from? In general hw related teams at Apple have bad wlb. Think Android, but worse
I worked in SPG, yes it’s an intense work culture.
It is going to be intense but a lot is dependent on the manager and team mates. Some individual teams have very good balance while many are really bad
AR related teams are pretty ok; at least the ones I know. I work in one of them on the computer vision aspects of AR and have reasonable work hours. I have been at Apple for 6+ years though and it’s probably time for me to try something else in life.
Arrogant af. Met with them a few years back. I don’t recommend.
I agree with @ridicule. I worked in that org. The specific team may vary but most people in the org were super arrogant, so was my manager (my team was nice otherwise). If you're white guy, you may do fine. Anyways, I ended up leaving in less than a year
@enuz65 - Did you end up taking the offfer from SPG ? If yes what has been your experience so far. I received an offer from Apple SPG, currently working at Amazon Lab126. The current atmosphere is not great to boast about in terms of WLB and I am drawn towards the Apple brand - Am I crazy to leave Lab126. 2+ YOE at Amazon and 10+ yrs overall
It may depend on the team. I was in a team with a manager who perhaps came from Infosys as a contractor and then worked as an engineer and then became a manager there. But to people above, he kisses a** like there is no tomorrow, and to people under him, he stomp on them like why bother to be careful when stomping on mud. And then he shows a hypocritical face when he is in front of everybody, and shows his true face when it is one on one. He also doesn't know things very well. Setting up the local dev machine and he can't even make it work because he didn't understand this and that. Not being so good, he certainly demand a lot from other people though. You know, when their secret product is "out", I really wonder if I should trust that product. He makes the whole group toxic.
Bogus work culture
