I received an offer from Goldman sachs as a VP (tech) My contract says minimum working hours are 45hrs/week but average working hours may exceed 48hrs/week. I have experience working long hours in investment banking but never seen that many hours literally written in the contract. They didn't give any number for bonus which is normal from GS I believe. I might even do it with the right numbers but I've been sent my contract already after waiting about 3months. Is it too late to still negotiate Should I raise this with HR? #goldmansachs #investmentbanking #IBtech #finance
Raise what with HR? They wrote the contract with their lawyers. If you don’t like it, don’t sign and decline. HR doesn’t control your work schedule.
Yes we do😂😂😂
Crazy to add to contract. Definitely a red flag. At the same time, I cant see how they would enforce this
Is this normal to see in a contract in Europe (given stronger labor laws than the US)?
London (& UK in general) are closer to the US than the rest of Europe, specially when it comes to labor laws! Besides, one can even make a case against London being in Europe after Brexit ;)
Depends on your division/team regarding hours
Do you guys have 45 to 48hrs in your contract? That's high, jp is 35 to 40 for tech front office
The role is within FICC
You should ask them to reduce the hours. 48 hours on contract is insane and you would end-up working 1.5x those hours
LOL
48 hours is normal (?) Also what was the offer?
In almost all recent contracts I’ve seen they specify that some law doesn’t apply and that you say that you wont be subject to only working 40 something hours a week. I think it might be standard
Yeah in previous contracts, I've seen something like what you've said. It makes more sense for them to say that than to say "your average hours may exceed 48hrs/week". I haven't heard or seen this before
Two Sigma, how many hours do you work? ^
